abcV has a lovely atmosphere and on a Friday night it wasn't packed, you could likely get seated without a reservation. I tried the sparkling elixir beverage and it wasn't the strongest start. I'd prefer it a bit more sweet and with stronger elements of the fruit flavors. Like many others have mentioned, the price point is pretty steep for what you're getting. They're all small plates in the $20-$35 range with really just a few bites of vegetables. We tried the "crispy smoked chicken of the woods mushroom" which was essentially fried mushroom -- definitely the most "meaty" dish we had that evening. It was well fried with a seasoned crispy exterior, the sauces accompanying it were just fine. The market beets had some of my favorite flavors, they were refreshing and felt like a variety with each bite with the avocado puree and elements of tartare. The dosa was fine but would be superior at most Indian restaurants, it was just a plain dosa with chutneys on the side - no masala filling. The seared tofu was made with a very soft silken tofu and served with roasted mushroom and broccolini. The vegetables felt a bit dry but the tofu was nice. The roasted murasaki yam was delicious, it had savory elements of black and white sesame and was brightened by a squeeze of lime juice. It was a Japanese yam so it was dense, starchy, and slightly sweet; the dish could have maybe benefitted from some more variety in textures. Overall, abcV is one of the nicer vegan restaurants in Manhattan, maybe worth splurging occasionally when the menu rotates. I probably won't be back for a while as it's hard to justify the price point of the dishes, but there really were no bad bites.
We came to ABCV, Jean Georges plant based restaurant. Inside it was warm and welcoming. Our waiter was fantastic in that he was friendly, attentive and made great recommendations on the menu. The food is excellent for vegans and vegetarians and non vegetarians alike because it's delicious. Cocktails and wines were very good. We had: - Cabbage Salad: excellent fancy coleslaw - Crispy Smoked Chicken of the Woods Mushroom - excellent , very good - Dosa - good but i've had better - Whole Roasted Cauliflower- amazing - Matsutake Mushrooms in Yuzu Broth - very good - Mushroom Walnut Bolognese- sooooo good - Seared Tofu - good, loved the vegetables inside more than the tofu - Dessert: Tart (amazing), Chocolate Cake (dry) It's expensive and some of the dishes weren't amazing but overall loved this place and will be back.
Came here on a Tuesday evening for an early dinner before a show. We arrived for our reservation as the restaurant was opening and were taken straight to our table. The dining space is airy, light and bright. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful with walking us through popular menu items. For dinner we shared the dosa with chutneys, crisp cabbage, off menu hen of the woods special and the spinach spaghetti. While we enjoyed every single dish, we both agreed that the spinach spaghetti was the best bite we ate on our entire trip to NYC. It was perfectly al dente with just the right amount of brightness and Parmesan. I cannot recommend it enough. Will for sure be back!
The rating is 4 technically but I would give it 3.5. Things to note: all the dishes are meant to share and abcV is right next to its sister restaurant, abc cocina. Even though our reservation was for abcV, we were seated at abc cocina and we were extremely confused why there was seafood and meat on the menu Onto the food. Overall, I enjoyed every dish I ate but I felt like the portions were smaller and overpriced. Like this isn't a place to come to if you're super hungry. The standout for me was the sweet corn wontons and the roasted apricots & pistachio ice cream, absolutely delicious. As an Indian, the dosa was disappointing (too crispy and not crispy and soft) though the chutneys did somewhat redeem the dish. The service and the pacing on the food was on point.
I recently went to abcV and really enjoyed my experience. First time dining at a Jean-Georges restaurant which was exciting. I thought the dishes were very unique and interesting so it was fun perusing the menu. Overall, the food was good but I'm not entirely sure it was "worth" the steep price points. To start, we ordered the California Dates. Perfect little sweet/savory bite. The sweet dates paired well creamy yogurt and tahini. I also enjoyed the little crunch from the pistachio. We also got the Whole Roasted Cauliflower. I have never cut into/eaten an entire head of cauliflower so this was a fun experience. The flavors of the dish were also so good! The lemon paired with the turmeric and zaatar and the spicy red zhug was perfect. The cauliflower also had a crispy exterior and wasn't mushy on the inside. A favorite amongst me and my friends! Another favorite was the Morel Mushroom with seared tofu and broccolini. I've never had a morel before so it was great trying that for the first time. Very flavorful, not a strong "mushroom" taste or texture, soaked up the soy sauce/sesame oil/ginger sauce very well. I loved the broccolini and the tofu as well; very delicious and well-cooked. We also ordered the Mushroom Walnut Bolognese. I didn't love this dish; sauce had a very forward mushroom flavor and was just alright. While, I enjoyed my experience, I wouldn't say I'm running to come back. It was fun to try once but it's definitely a solid option to go if you have strictly vegetarian friends/want to make eating veggies more fun.
Beautiful vegetarian restaurant by Chef Jean-Georges. The dishes were unique and yummy, but we didn't quite think they were good enough for the fine dining price and portions. Still, a great place to splurge for special occasions especially if you have strictly vegetarian friends!! They recommend family style and ordering 2-3 dishes per person, with each dish being around $30. **old review from summer 2023**
